SIDDUR AND MACHZOR KOL KOREH / A VOICE CALLS

“When I davven, I envision myself as entering into a conversation with God. I am not trying to get through a service…(T)he prayer book is a guide for offering the heart’s feelings to God. To understand how this is possible, you have to see the siddur in an entirely different way. The siddur is like a coloring book with outlines. People have to fill it in with life, background, and context.”
                                                                                        (Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi)

Some of the features of Kol Koreh include:
• For beginners, the Hebrew text is fully transliterated and each Hebrew paragraph is followed by a gender neutral translation.
• Each small unit of the service is introduced, both in terms of content and with instructions on how to “do” this prayer.
• Each small unit of this siddur stands alone. All prayers start at the top of odd numbered pages and end on even numbered pages. This will make it easy to correct, add, and change individual prayers without having to issue an entirely new edition each time.
• The services follow the traditional form.
• Siddur Kol Koreh is intended to reflect a perpetually evolving liturgy.
Siddur Kol Koreh began at Dartmouth College, where we made a virtue of our small size by respecting, honoring, and celebrating our different backgrounds. I pray that in the wider world of Jewish spiritual renewal, this respect and eagerness to learn from one another will expand even further. May this siddur contribute in some small way to a deepening of your spiritual practice and your appreciation of one another.

Currently, the Shabbat version of Siddur Kol Koreh is available only on paper in a loose-leaf binder format and the weekday siddur and the Resource Companion are digital. Please click on the following link to access these volumes: Kol Koreh Shabbat/Weekdays

MACHZOR KOL KOREH Version 1.2
At long last, with both excitement and trepidation at having taken on so awesome a project, I am happy to announce the completion of the second upgrade of the Machzor Kol Koreh project of the ALEPH Bet Midrash. A set of pdf documents with embedded sound files, this machzor offers an updated Hebrew text which reflects the core principles of Jewish Renewal as well as access to both musical nusach and melody. As an electronic document, you will also be able to select from its pages in creating your own versions of the machzor.

The latest update adds Yizkor plus a second, complete service for Shacharit/Musaf for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur Ma'ariv and morning.

Please click on the image of the cover to the left to view the complete "Read Me" file which gives a detailed description of the project and how to access the files plus a sample page, the half kaddish from N'ilah. Download the page to hear the sound file linked to the words (by passing the "hand" over the words until you see a pointing finger and then click.

We are offering Machzor Kol Koreh in the form of a subscription. Some specifics:
1. Once you have paid for your subscription, you will receive an address to download which is good for 3 downloads, in case you have difficulty on the first try. It is a large file, so be sure you leave enough time and be patient.
2. The download is a zip file, so it needs to be expanded prior to viewing/listening. When you expand the zip file, you will have a folder called Machzor Kol Koreh. Inside is a folder for each day and within is a folder which has the pdf documents. Applications to expand zip and read pdf files are free. We tested the files and they work, so if you have difficulties please try to resolve them on your own.

3. PLEASE REMEMBER TO OPEN THE "READ ME" FILE IN "MACHZOR ON THE WEB" FOLDER. THERE YOU WILL FIND INSTRUCTIONS ON LOCATING THE LINKS BETWEEN THE TEXT AND THE SOUND FILES, AS WELL AS OTHER INFORMATON.
Benefits of the subscription:
1. You will receive the next upgrade (please be sure you keep your email address current with me).
2. You can email errors you find which need correction, suggestions for insertions and additions that you think would improve the machzor.
3. You will be invited to join a discussion prior to the beginning of work on the next upgrade. At that time, we will share in deciding on the focus of each upgrade.
I pray that this new machzor, on which we are working together, will serve you well as you turn your own hearts to the Holy One of Blessing and guide those for whom you have a sacred trust.
