  • Father of three sons, grandfather to two little girls
  • Currently lives on Hornby Island, British Columbia, serving as vice-president of the Hornby Island Residents and Ratepayers Association; past chair of the Hornby Island Community Economic Enhancement Corporation

Our Board of Directors

Vera Kisfalvi, Chair

Dr. Veronika (Vera) Kisfalvi is a former professor of business administration, retired from HEC Montréal since 2014. Her teaching and research career focused on leadership, decision-making and management skills. Vera has been involved with Jewish Renewal and progressive judaism for several decades and is committed to promoting a robust, progressive, egalitarian and diverse Jewish presence in Montreal. She was an active participant and steering committee member of Chavurah Har Kodesh, and more recently, a Board member of Mile End Chavura. In addition to her work with these Chavurahs,she has also served on Boards of other community organizations including DES Action Canada, the Women’s Centre of Montreal, and MCVI, a rape crisis centre.  

Miriam Friedman, Secretary

Miriam Friedman, BEd, BFA was born and raised in Montreal, and lived in Toronto for 20 years before moving to Regina, SK, in 1992 with Crown Life. Following other careers in administration at REDA/RROC and in fundraising and donor relations at the University of Regina, Miriam is currently semi-retired and works at Beth Jacob Synagogue as Executive Director and Talmud Torah teacher. In addition, she is the part-time Administrative Coordinator of the English as an Additional Language at  Beth Jacob Synagogue. Miriam also holds volunteer positions at the synagogue, including Choir Leader and Lay Service Leader. She shares the role of leading the Sabbath services when Rabbi Jeremy Parnes is away. Miriam is proud to be a board member of Aleph Canada and feels a deep commitment to the values of the organization.

Anna Maranta

Anna-Sofia Maranta is a radical wisewoman, ritualist and spiritual healer with training as a rabbi and kohenet who offers education, mentoring and support to individuals and families on their spiritual journey. She facilitates marriage and separation rituals, rites of passage, and mourning rites. A lover of natural beauty, reading and quiet contemplation, she may frequently be found sipping organic, fair-trade coffee, on a warm sunlit patio with at least one book and a journal at hand. She loves late summer evenings, wild blueberries, 72% dark chocolate and brightly-coloured Post It Notes. She serves on the ALEPH Canada Board with the hope of increasing the visibility of Jewish Renewal in Canada.
